30/01/2014 CONSTRUCTION: THE TITLE OF OUR FILM

We have decided to call our film In Cold Blood we hoped to hint at the period of the film and the fact that it took place during the Cold War, which was a time of political distrust between the west and the USSR.  The title name connotes that it will contain thriller, suspense and murder mystery.

29/01/2014 FILMING: FIRST FILMING SESSION

Today we started to film our opening.  We all brought in differnt parts of costume and then in the lesson took the props, costumes, camera, tripod and lights up to the mansion.  We filmed in the gold, guilded room in the mainson because it looked most like an office out of all the rooms we could film in.  We had authenic props and costumes, this included a newspaper which was from the early 1900's, fedora hats, trench coats, family photos which where taken from the 1950's, hand made cigarettes and a brown file.  We were able to film the scene that we intended to in the time given and get extra parts incase we don't like how some of the shoots turn out.  We are planning to film next week as well in the same location.

29/01/2014 EVALUATION: FEEDBACK ON SHOTS OF THE MEN’S MEETING

On 29 January, we screened this sequence to a focus group of year 10 pupils who offered us a range of useful feedback

  • The main criticism referred to the speed of some of the pans, which compromised the sharpness of focus and risked making the audience feel a bit uneasy.
  • We learned from this that next time we would pan more slowly, checking the focus, and taking test shots.
  • We were praised for the lighting in the room, with use of little natural light as well as artificial such as strong, filming lights.  We were also praised for the rich, vivid colours in the room for example the orange/ gold wallpaper, the ornate, elaborate ceiling and heavy, dark wood doors and furniture

08/01/2014 PLANNING: FIRST SCENE

In the lesson we planned one of the scenes that we could record in school.  The scene is a conversation scene with some men whispering about something they are planning.  In class we discussed what we would need for the scene to get it recorded such as costumes and props.  We decided that we would need pieces of paper that had writing on them, pictures of something (undecided), fedoras for the men to wear and long coats.  We a planning to start filming Wednesday 15/01/2013
