Describing the second hobbit trailer

Mise en scene
  • the way they have all the trees at the beginning to show that it is a peaceful place
  • changes to a place with trees that look dead and in the background what looks like the remains of a castle
  • hills with big rocks sticking out the top which could mean that it is at the top of a big mountain
  • flat grassy lands with a quite big tree and a small cottage in the back to show that the land has not been touched much around the town
  • In the house the celling is low down to show that that people who live in the houses are not the tallest people
  • A town that looks as if it were naturally built into the land around it
  • Difference in clothing between the dwarfs, Bilbo the hobbit and Gandalf the wizard.  Bilbo wears quite plain clothing a pair of trousers and a shirt.  While as Gandalf wears what you would picture if you heard the word wizard, a big pointy hat and a look cloak.  While as the dwarfs all where different things they look complicated, made out of animal fur for some of it and they all have beards.

Camerawork
  • Birds eye view to show how much forest land there still is on middle earth
  • An ECU of Gandalf
  • camera zooming into a map to show where the place Gandalf is describing is and how it is no where near anything else
  • A close up hero shot of the lead dwarf with the rest of the dwarfs behind him
  • Pan over of the shire to show how built into the land it is
  • full screen shots of the dwarfs so people can see each one individually
  • full screen of the mountains and dwarfs to show how far they have to travel
  • zooms in on city on the side of a mountain showing the size of it and the detail in the buildings
  • showing the inside of the mountain to show how dangerous it is
  • ECU of Gollem to show how he looks and to show that he my not be the best person in the film
Sound
  • dramatic exciting sounding music to open whilst Gandlaf is describing the dwarfs and their plan
  • change after first titles to a less dramatic music which signifies a change in environment and characteristics in the characters
  • another change after lead dwarf says plan and Bilbo has changed his mind about going on the adventure this change could possibly be saying this music is exciting and this is where the trailer now gets exciting.
  • drum beat to signify that Bilbo has just realised what Gollem is talking about and is surprised
  • another dramatic change in music to signify that it has now become more adventurous

Editing
  • starts with a darker shade of green to show that it is the outside world and then changes to a much brighter shade of green to show that it is now in the shire
  • bright colours on the inside of Bilbo's home to show that it is safe for him to be there
  • the changes from the bright green colour of the shire to a lighter green on the trees and a white colour on the buildings to show that it is now somewhere completely different
  • dark colour with only a small bit of light from a fire with monsters to show the danger that Bilbo is no in
  • light blue colour to show that it is perhaps on the inside of a mountain or on the very edge of one
  • inside of a different mountain with very dark colours and only tiny bits of light to show that it is now in a place that is dangerous to go to and could bring harm to anyone that enters

Ideas for second exam perfume advert

In this advert the women is centralised and is standing in front of the Empire State building.  Like the first advert she is looking away from the viewer of the advert.  The perfume bottle is to the right of the advert and is sitting on the floor, while as in the first one it was on the left in an arch.  She is showing her legs to get attention because she maybe wants to be the centre of attention or just wants to get men to look at her.

The woman is looking confidently in to the distance.  Maybe at something or maybe at someone.  The slogan "she's not going to marry the boy next door" gives the impression that this women is self reliant and doesn't need a man to be successful.  The clothes she is wearing suggests that she might be wealthy as she is able to afford clothes like that.

This perfume advert I believe is trying to say if you wear this perfume you can be self reliant and not need to marry the first man you see, but wait.

Starting the fragrance poster

In Friday's double lesson we started to make the fragrance or perfume advert/poster.  The way we did this was by taking one picture from the photo shoot that we did the week before and putting it into photoshop.  After that we had to edit the picture make it smaller make it bigger anything we wanted to do to it.  Then we had to put the brand name that we had thought of for homework the lesson before and its slogan.  Also thought of lesson before.  Then we had to put it on to the poster in a font that we had chosen that we thought made it look good and would attract peoples attention.  After that we then had to get a picture of a fragrance or perfume bottle and photoshop it in to the image.

essay research part 2

Carrying on with the research for the fragrance essay I went to the advertising archives website and I found another possibility for the 1980s to 1990s advert.  It was quite a strange poster/ advert I think that is the reason why I choose it.  After that I carried on searching round the Internet for some adverts for the 1980s to 1990s so I had three possible choices for the essay.  The third possible choice came from a website called Vintage ad browser.  The choice was different to the other ones I had for that era so that would be the reason why I choose it.

Now that I had found three choices for two of the eras.  I moved onto You tube to try and find a moving image advert for 2012.  One of the choices I decided would be a Calvin Klein advert called encounter.  A second choice I made was Dior addict because it was different to the first becase it had a women as the main person while as the first choice had both as the main people in it.  I think I will use the encounter one but that has not yet been decided.

Research

Firstly for my research into fragrance adverts in the 1920's, 1990's and 2012 started with me going onto a website called vintage ad browser where I looked through some of the fragrance adverts for the 1920's which were posters i didn't find any on that website that I liked the look off so I moved on to a different website.  After searching the Internet for a bit longer I though that I would try and find an fragrance advert from the 1990's instead and I started my search on You tube to see if there were any moving image fragrance adverts from the 1990s that looked interesting and good to use.

I searched You tube for moving image adverts from the 1990s and I found a few one of which I decided not to use because I though it played on sexuality a bit to much That is a link to the Calvin Klein Escape advert from 1995.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=Ma8a5u3pfHQ.  I also looked at a Chanel No.19 advert which I thought was good but just a bit to short.  I also decided to look for some non moving image fragrance adverts from the 1990s as well.  After a while of that I thought I would go back to the 1920's fragrance poster adverts where I went to google images to search for one.  I then decided on two that I might use for the essay.

adverts

Today in class we started to watch some of the adverts that people had written about for the homework.  I thought all the ones that we watched in class where really good.  After Mrs Mann had played the advert the person who had chosen that add had to talk about it, describe it, say how it worked and who it was directed at e.g was it directed at men or women.  Everyone did really well in describing there adds exceptionally when more then one person had chosen the advert.  We watched about a quarter of the adverts chosen for homework.  We will watch the rest in the next lesson.  I found quiet a few of the adverts quiet amusing.

Twitter

Today in Media we first discussed what adverts we used for our homework, it terms out not surprisingly that no one else used the same car advert as me, while as with the airline one it seemed that quiet a lot of the class decided to use that advert as there one.  Maybe that was because it was quiet a recent advert, or maybe it was just because it was a good advert.  After that Mrs Mann our teacher said that we could create a twitter account, that would allow us to follow people in the media industry.  After we had done that we looked through the exams of some previous students to see how they did the exam.  We read through the exams in groups of two and saw how they described the adverts they used for their exam.  After that Mrs Mann gave us our homework then the lesson was over for another day

car and airline advert

The first advert the airline one is a British airways advert for the London 2012 Olympics.  In this advert it starts in a plane that is getting ready for take off but instead it starts to drive out of the airport and drives done the roads of London.  During the advert you see many of the sights of London through the windows of the plane or from the outside where you can see the plane next to the monument itself.  One part you see the plane next to big Ben.  This advert worked to both support team GB in the Olympics but also British airways.  Every time the advert showed the whole plane you could see the words British airways on the side.  The advert also showed the people who worked on the plane helping people at the beginning with their bags but then also again near the end when they were letting the people off the plane.  At the end of the advert it says in big bold writing don't fly support team GB.  Which for an airline advert is quiet surprising considering normally they would be trying to get people to fly with them, but in this one they are saying don't fly stay in Britain.  The reasoning behind showing the sights of London is to show what great things there are to see in London, as well as saying that instead of going on Holiday to other places during the Olympics you should stay in Britain and support team GB

The second advert is a Toyota car advert.  The advert was filmed in Scotland next to loch ness.  The advert starts with a runner running down a road he starts to slow down and stops.  He then walks towards a Toyota car that is parked next to loch ness.  He walks up to the car and goes to open the door as he touches the door the car falls over because it is a card board cut out of a real Toyota car.  After the car has fallen over a tentacle comes out from the water, followed by lots more one of them grabs the man and drags him into the water to the loch ness monster.  Another tentacle then comes out of the ground and stands the cut out back up.  This employs that the monster has grown smart and is using a cut out of a irresistible car to attract people in then once they have touched the car it gets them.  This advert of cause plays on the myth of the Loch ness monster

Lara croft and Lucozade

In 1988 Lucozade sponsored Lara croft by using here in adverts.  Lucozade used Lara croft in multiple adverts where she got into a situation that seemed dyer, where she would drink the Lucozade and then get out of the situation.  In one of the adverts Lara was in a dyer situation with an axe above her head, the game then got paused and the person playing it went to the bathroom, so Lara croft got two Lucozades out of her bag and gave one to the person holding the axe and they decided to have a drink.  The person then came back into the room, had a mouth full of the Lucozade that he had started playing the game again and Lara got straight out of the situation, they used the slogan for a refreshing pause to get the affect of the part where the game is paused.

coca cola and pepsi

Second media lesson went well.  When the lesson started we went back onto the topic of coca cola and there main competition Pepsi.  We also talked about the Pepsi coco wars.  Which where coca cola and Pepsi fighting over buyers using all the different types of advertisement.  We also went back and watched an advert that we watched in the last lesson so we could discuss what we saw in the advert in detail.  We also discussed how the advert was edited for different countries not just by changing the text but by changing the nationality of the woman who was always in the middle of the shot.

We also discussed how the coca cola company is not as good as it always makes it self out to be.  How it wants to sell coca in different companies so instead of shipping it there they make factories there and how they would do things that would damage the local populations crops or way of life.  WE also watched an advert called the hilltop advert which was made just after the Vietnam war.  It showed different people from all different nationalities singing with each other in harmony with coca in their hands.  This advert showed that coca can bring harmony as well as people singing in it.

Single lesson

Well where do I start today.  Well today was just a single lesson so we didn't have as much time to do things as we did in the first lesson.  But what we did do was discuss the genre we would be looking at over the year.  Which was one of my favourites action and adventure.  We also looked at what films where in the top five in cinemas over the last couple of months.  They were 1 avengers assemble 2 Prometheus 3 Men in black three 4 hunger games and 5 American pie Reunion?  We looked at what coca cola did to advertise their product at Christmas.  The piece of advertising we looked at was a banner that was made by coca cola.  It had a massive coca cola bottle on one side and snow underneath it.  Next to that was Santa with his back full of presents on his back and a coca cola bottle in his hand.  Both bottles had a ribbon on them making it look as if they were gifts, this plus all the features of the banner made it look like it had the feeling of Christmas and this is what sold coke through out the Christmas holidays.

We also watched another advert for coke which featured a woman walking down the street smiling and singing giving coke bottles to people as she walked past them.  The happiness seemed to move from person to person with every coke bottle she handed out.  After we had watched the advert we discussed it and said about some of the things we noticed in the advert about things that happened in the background of the advert as well as what was happening in the main shot.  After we had finished that the lesson was over and it was time to go

My first media lesson

Today was my first media studies lesson, it was really good, what we did in the lesson today was first of all look at some previous work that students did last year, our teacher explained what some of the parts of the pictures were called, such as what the different names were for close up shot and medium shots.  We also looked at what the students had called the product and how they had expressed this in the background of the picture.  Also, how some of the products were named in french, the background of the picture and what the people were wearing in the picture expressed the name.

After we had done that we went back to the class room and discussed some different types of advertising media and how companies have use different things for their advertisement.  Such as celebrities.  We watched a diet coke advert which had the singer Duffy in the advert, diet coke is advertised at women to make it so they can have a fizzy drink with less sugar in it. Using the female singer Duffy was good because it showed that in between her concerts she could have a drink of diet coke and be happy.  During the advert she made eye contact with a few people and the way the advert went made it look like her happiness was spreading.

After that we watched a second advert which was about coke zero, they had used the theme of James Bond for their advert. Using both coke zero and the theme of James Bond in this advert made it look like with coke zero you can be cool like James Bond, have lots of fast cars and get the ladies.  We also looked at how women were used in advertisments to make it look like without a certain thing they would be a failure.  Then after discussing that for a bit longer we started to set up our blogger acounts.

After we had set up our blogger accounts, which I am using right now to post this, we made our first blog which you are currently reading.
